World GameMaster Tournament 2008 Philippines Finals
Marikina City, Philippines, October 26, 2008 - The long run has come to an end. For the past two months, the World GameMaster Tournament 2008 has gone through the Philippine islands to search out the very first Filipino gamers to become WGT champions.
Manila, Cebu and Davao were the top cities picked to be the venues of the regional preliminaries. The locations have proved to be strategic, being the largest and center cities for Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Many gamers flocked to these places but only a few took the golden opportunity to compete in the finals. And now, the preliminaries champions met for an ultimate battle at Cyberzone, SM Marikina and took the coveted World GameMaster Tournament trophy.
Like in the preliminaries, the computer games up to challenge the battle spirits of the players were Warcraft III: DOTA, Need for Speed and Counterstrike.
A whopping P75,000 in cash was up for grabs to the winners of each team plays. Team Mineski ( Ronald Robins, Rick Robins, Jose Silva, Anthony Benjamin and Rhymer Ollie) from Manila took the whooping P75,000 in cash for domineering the popular network game of DOTA. Delegates from Cebu called the Team eXs (Remington Busi, Michael Ross, Virgil Chonki, Mark Pintor and Carl de Guzman) bagged P50,000 as the 2nd placers. While 3rd placer Team Theos brought home P25,000.
The other participants who joined the battle in the five-man team plays of Dota are EZ, and Homeboyz from Manila, Nomets, FK and Bratz.Pro from Davao, Schooled, and Acting Innocent from Cebu.
10 teams outwitted during the Counterstrike games but only 3 showed the fiercest among all. Mineski CS (Jupiter Mars Gaboy, Paolo Nancho, Erwin John Clores, Arvin Agbisit and Gary Guevarras) from Manila, Team MOTV (Karl Apas, Carl Michael Poblete, Alvin Gimenez, Rodney Co and Johnny Peralta) from Cebu, and Bratz.X02 ( Peter Benjamin Hernandez, Bruce Kevin Zamora, Jimlord Pelinio, Ryan Bromo, and Marvy Lezly Gajo) from Davao won P75,000, P50,000 and P25,000 respectively.
The 7 other teams who participated were laQs, Suspect & Force from Manila , DC, & Saging lang ang may Puso from Davao, and MLP, & MOTV Jr from Cebu.
Israel Magante proved himself the fastest player in the individual competition of Need for Speed and took home a cash prices of P15,000. The next in line, Darnel Tamundong, received P10,000 while the 3rd slot took home P5,000 by the name of Jessie Bello. All winners for this competition came from the Manila preliminaries. This race was on for Richard Matias from Manila, and Carl Poblete, Johnny Peralta, Karl Roncesvalles from Cebu.
Earlier on before the head start of the tournament , Mr. Leon Yu, Country Manager of Asus Philippines said that, “The power of technology and sports combined to develop our youth is best seen in the World GameMaster Tournament.” From the very beginning and up to the end of this tournament, ASUS is the official hardware sponsor in forming the WGTs’ objective of providing total gaming solutions. After the preliminaries’ months Mr. Yu said, “We have had fun during the course of the tournament and we are now very excited on its culmination.”
Indeed the two-day event proved to be spectacular.
